Our Representation Policy

At Stage One Talent, transparency and fairness sit at the heart of our agency values. As we continue to grow, it’s important that actors — and parents of younger performers — fully understand our approach to representation, commissions, contract timing, and the way we work behind the scenes. This post outlines our representation policy in clear detail, ensuring everyone we work with feels informed, respected, and supported.

Why Our Representation Policy Matters

The entertainment industry can feel overwhelming, especially for new actors. This is why having a clear and fair representation policy is essential. It establishes trust, protects performers, and ensures that expectations between actor and agency are aligned from the beginning.

Many actors worry about hidden costs, unfair contracts, or agencies that promise the world before delivering very little. At Stage One Talent, our goal is to remove that uncertainty. Our representation policy is built on honesty, communication, and a commitment to earning your trust through results rather than promises.

No Upfront Fees — Our Core Principle

The most important part of our representation policy is simple:
We do not charge upfront fees for representation.

You are not asked to pay:

  • registration fees
  • signing fees
  • admin fees
  • monthly representation fees

Instead, we only enter into a formal long-term contract after we secure your first paid job. This ensures we prove our value before any commitment is made. It also means you can feel confident that we are genuinely motivated to find you work, not motivated by charging upfront costs.

This approach is rare in the industry and reflects our commitment to fairness.

How We Earn Our Commission

As outlined in our representation policy, our agency earns income through commission on successfully completed work. Once a production pays us for your performance, we forward your earnings directly to you after deducting our agreed commission percentage. These rates are clearly stated in our representation terms and are aligned with standard UK industry expectations.

This model means:

  • We only earn when you earn
  • You never pay for nothing
  • We are incentivised to secure high-quality roles
  • There are no hidden or surprise charges

It’s a transparent structure that keeps everyone on the same page.

Optional Services (Never Linked to Representation)

Although representation is free, we do offer optional paid services such as:

  • Showreel production
  • Professional headshots
  • Acting workshops
  • Scripted scene sessions

These are offered to actors who want additional support, but they are not required to be represented by us. Our representation policy clearly states that purchasing any optional service does not influence casting submissions or agency decisions.

When Contracts Are Signed

Under our representation policy, a formal representation agreement is only signed when we have demonstrated results. Before that, we work with talent:

  • flexibly
  • transparently
  • without pressure
  • based on suitability for casting briefs

Once your first paid booking is secured, we then offer a full contract outlining commissions, expectations, and professional boundaries. At that point, you already know:

  • how we communicate
  • how we submit you for roles
  • how we manage availability checks
  • how we handle payments

This “prove first, formalise later” method builds trust on both sides.

What We Expect from Our Actors

A fair representation policy goes both ways. For us to secure roles effectively, we expect actors to:

  • Update us on availability
  • Respond quickly to availability checks
  • Keep headshots and CVs accurate
  • Maintain professionalism at castings
  • Honour confirmed bookings

Success in this industry requires teamwork, and reliability is essential.

Building Long-Term Relationships

Our representation policy is designed to encourage long-term relationships with our performers. We aren’t interested in short-term gains or signing large numbers of actors without offering real support. Instead, we focus on building a roster of dependable, talented individuals who we can genuinely promote to casting directors.

By prioritising transparency and trust, we are building an agency where actors feel valued, informed, and supported as they progress in their careers.
